Caroline Blaike is a queer, American Sign Language performer, consultant, and interpreter. As a hearing member of the sign language community, it’s her mission to advocate for equal access to art, media, and culture for the Deaf community.
“Looking accessible and being accessible are two different concepts.” - C.B.
With a bachelor’s degree in Deaf studies and a master’s degree in social work from Gallaudet, the world’s only university exclusively devoted to Deaf students, Caroline Blaike noticed a lack of equal opportunity for Deaf talent in the entertainment industry, as well as a need for more accessible media. She is not only well versed in ASL, but also in Deaf culture and film production working as a set consultant.
Caroline has been sought out by companies such as Louis Vuitton, Target, Mercedes Benz, LG Mobile, Kodak, and Facebook for acting, modeling, and ASL interpreting. She has appeared on Vice, The Talking Dead, and Twitch.
As a trained dancer and performer, Caroline has a passion for combining American sign language with music. She has served as an ASL interpreter for global artists including Cardi B, Nelly, Toby Keith, and A$AP Rocky at national music festivals making musical concepts and lyrics accessible. Caroline co-produced an ASL accessible version of Billy Ellish’s “Bury A Friend” winning “Best Experimental” at the LA Independent Film Festival and “Best Experimental Film” at the Vegas Movie Awards. The short film was also highlighted at Outfest, an LGBTQ Film Festival.
Caroline has casted Deaf talent, consulted and performed for iconic K-Pop artist, CL, creating accessibility and highlighting Deaf talent. She has consulted on the production set of 2020 live action horror television series Kinderfänger on Crypt TV.
Currently residing in Los Angeles, Caroline continues to produce and create accessible content for the sign language community.
